Employees are reminded to speak to their Supervisor first about a health and safety concern.  If corrective action is not taken, then the employee is to report the matter to their Health & Safety representative.

 

1.                  ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

            The Malton Health and Safety Committee minutes of June 20, 2006  were approved as printed/circulated.

 

 

2.                  Summary of RECOMMENDATIONS

The following recommendation was made at the June20 meeting:

 

That stop #3553 located on Airport Road north of Highway 427 be removed due to difficulties to get over to the left turn lane on Airport Road at Jetliner Road when serving this stop.

 

Committee accepts the removal of stop # 3553 on Airport Rd and as a temporary measure, have it relocated to Jetliner Drive, approximately 115 metres west of Airport Road.

 

3.                  WHMIS UPDATE

Nothing to report.

 

4.                  TRAINING

One committee member requires Core Certification training; dates yet to be determined Conflict resolution course has been arranged for August 9th and August 28th with Peel Regional Police, from 8.00am to 10.30am in the training room.     

 

5.                  MSDS REVIEW

No items or products were brought forward.

Management co-chair distributed a handout on the Dispute Resolution Process for the committee’s information.

 

 

11.       HAZARD INFORMATION REPORTS

12.      NEW BUSINESS

 

N/B Route 57(stop #3082 Mavis north of Nova star):  due to insufficient distance between the stop and the left turn it is unsafe for the bus to service this stop.

 

West Wood Mall West Entrance: the concrete blocks of the side walk have heaved in the heat and there is quite a gap between the concrete and the pavement. A driver had an on board accident due to this gap.

Storage Area Lighting

Worker Co-chair stated at that lighting in the storage area is insufficient during early morning and evening hours to conduct proper circle checks.  Arrangements have been made to have all bulbs replaced and all lens cleaned.  New bulbs have been received. Estimated completion date now middle of August.

Bay 5 Cement

Worker Co-chair stated that the cement in the area is broken and that the metal plates covering the hoist pit (not in use) in Bay 5 are deteriorating, bending, as well as rusting through.   Arrangements have been made for corrective action.  Estimated completion date of June 30th.

Worker rep. stated that the improvised exhaust system designed for Malton is leaking fumes everywhere when in use. Arrangements have been made to have three new pipes installed. (June 30)

Trees on Cardiff Blvd.

July/06

Request made to have trees trimmed on Cardiff North of Lorimar Drive due to sightline difficulty.  This has been forwarded to Recreation and Parks – Forestry.

Trees cut on wrong side of street. Management co-chair will follow up with Recreation and Parks -Forestry.

New Paper Towels

July/06

Complaints received that the new paper towels are causing irritation and rash.  MSDS sheet indicates that there are no hazardous components.  Further complaints will be investigated on an individual basis.
