10. WSIB (Workplace Safety
Insurance Board) SUMMARY
There were
seven WSIB reports filed in December for Malton for which one resulted in a lost
time claim. The Acting Health & Safety Specialist explained in detail to
Committee members Transit’s 2005 results, stating that overall there was an
increase of 16% in incidents (due to employees being encouraged to report
incidents) but a decrease of 11% in lost time claims.
It was noted by
the Committee the increase of Malton inhalation claims and requested the lost
time administrator to investigate as to a specific problem (ie unit, area or
thing) so that corrective action can be put into place. Findings are too
brought back to the Committee.
11.
HAZARD INFORMATION REPORTS
None to
report.
12.
NEW BUSINESS
Route 57
– Worker rep stated that operators are experiencing difficult exiting the
infield loop as five ton trucks are parking in the loop to do deliveries as the
no parking signs have been removed; causing operators to do three point turns to
exit which is against safety violations. Management co-chair will contact
Service Development to have them contact the airport authority or City to have
the signs reposted immediately as operators are to stop immediately doing three
point turns.
Bus Fire
Extinguishers – Worker rep stated that on some of
the units the fire extinguishers are not working. Management co-chair stated
that this is part of an operator’s daily circle check and if found defective to
write up the unit and take the defective extinguisher to the stock room for
immediate replacement.
Westwood
Mall, Loading Zones Rte 12 & 16 – Committee
advised that the asphalt has dropped tremendously causing the units to rock back
and forth to the stop affecting the loading and unloading of passengers, making
wheel chair accessibility impossible. Maintenance building co-ordinator will be
contacted to arrange for the entire terminal to be inspected for corrective
action till the spring in order to prevent operator injury.
