HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE

Malton Satellite

Employees are reminded to speak to their Supervisor first about a health and safety concern.  If corrective action is not taken, then the employee is to report the matter to their health and safety representative.

 

1.       ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

       The minutes from the Health & Safety Meeting of May 17th were approved as printed/circulated.

 

2.     RECOMMENDATIONS

        No recommendations were put forward at previous meeting.

 


 

3.     WHMIS UPDATE

Two new groups of operators received WHMIS training and 16 new operators are presently in class receiving training. 

 


 

4.      TRAINING

A two day First Aid & CPR class is being arranged for supervisors and employees requiring this training.

9.             WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) SUMMARY


 

One WSIB report was filed in May at Malton Satellite which did not result in lost time.

 


 

10.         HAZARD INFORMATION REPORTS


 

No reports received from Malton division.

 


 

11.         NEW BUSINESS

Water Fountain – Worker rep reported that fountain by the maintenance supervisor’s office is not cold and was reminded that this is not an H&S issue; but that the replacement of the water filters is.  Arrangements will be made to have this checked/replaced more frequently. 

 

Bus Idling – Worker rep wonders why buses are idling in storage area each morning now that it is summer.  Supervisor, Malton Operations contacted Maintenance Supervisor last week and was advised that GSP were directed to stop this procedure during summer period; will follow up.

 

Dust Recovery System – Management co-chair stated that testing is being done at CP on a brake cleaning dust recovery system to reduce dust created.  Once a decision has been made the recovery pan will be sent to Malton.

 

Westwood Mall Washroom – Worker rep inquired on status of TMT’s decision as situation is getting worse daily, the following recommendation was put forward:

 

The Health & Safety Committee recommends that the Director of Transit explore the idea of either replacing the washroom facility at Westwood Mall or sanitize the existing trailer to eliminate the odour which has gone beyond being tolerable.

Thermal King has checked the status of all ac units at CP & Malton and is in the process of replacing Freon on units.

CFM reviewed situation and placed cyclone on back of drain plate to eliminate odor which to date has corrected problem.  If problem reoccurs a new cover plate & gasket will be installed.
