Employees are reminded to speak to their Supervisor first about a health and
safety concern. If corrective action is not taken, then the employee is to
report the matter to their health and safety representative.
1. ADOPTION OF
PREVIOUS MINUTES
The minutes from the Health & Safety Meeting of March 15th
were approved as printed/circulated.
2.
RECOMMENDATIONS
No recommendations submitted at previous meeting.
3.
WHMIS UPDATE
Twelve new operators were trained this past month with more new
operator training expected in May.
4.
TRAINING
This
week Council approved the hiring of forty two additional operators. With
this approval, training will
be ongoing
throughout the year. Current operators will be participating in these
training courses, to
update and
improve operator skill techniques.

WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) SUMMARY
Two WSIB
reports were filed in March that resulted in one lost time claim.
10.
HAZARD INFORMATION REPORTS
One verbal
report received regarding unstable wall by hydro box which is being
addressed by Building Maintenance Co-coordinator thru workplace inspection
report.
11.
NEW BUSINESS
Cardiff Layovers
– Worker rep stated that operators are experiencing increased customer
complaints when they are required to use the washroom facility in area and
requested that the current layover location be changed to stop 5100. The
following recommendation was issued:
The Health &
Safety Committee recommends that the Route 5A layover be changed from the
current stop 2591 to stop 5100 to facilitate the use of the washroom at the
Maple Leaf restaurant.
Westwood Mall Washroom – Management co-chair advised the Committee that
information has been
obtained on the replacement of current trailer to a larger washroom unit and
presented to TMT for which a
decision is pending shortly.

arrangements can be made for the rental of a hot air blower to warm

Service Delivery as been contacted by worker rep on recently
installed yield sign. Management co-chair to contact Manager,
Service Delivery on the possibility of installing a cautionary sign
in area. The Region has indicated that due to the legal parameters
they are unable to relocate this sign. |

Management co-chair to contact to Superintendent Vehicle Maintenance
on the lingering bus fumes from units going thru the wash bay in
order that CFM can be notified to check the exhaust fans in this
