MISSISSAUGA TRANSIT SAFETY COMMITTEE

Malton

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

         Regrets:        

 

Employees are reminded to speak to their Supervisor first about a health and safety concern.  If corrective action is not taken, then the employee is to report the matter to their health and safety representative.

 

1.       ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

The minutes from the Health & Safety Meeting of December 15th were approved as printed/circulated.

 

 

2.     RECOMMENDATIONS

No recommendations submitted at previous meeting.

 

 


 

3.     WHMIS UPDATE

No update to report.

 

 


 

4.      TRAINING

         Training classes are being offered on an ongoing basis until the next recruitment class commences

         February 14th and will resume once new operator training has been completed.   Maintenance employees

         are to be notified shortly on fork lift training.

 

 


 

5.       ITEMS CARRIED FORWARD

1)      Labeling:

Antifreeze & methanol metallic decanting labels for the service truck still outstanding.  Management co-chair to investigate delivery status.                                                                                               Ongoing

 

          2)    Outside Storage Shelter – Work order currently with CFM for their 2005 budgetary consideration.    Ongoing

 

          3)    Bus stop – Route 42 E/B @ Derry & Maritz Road – Stop will not be moved until  the dimensions of the right turn lane are adjusted, which will not be done now till spring..                                     Item dropped

 

5)    Bay 6 – Safety precaution procedure to be used at all times while working with this hoist until

                 replacement in 2005.                                                                                                      Ongoing

 

6)    Pigeons – Concern has been addressed.                                                                 Item dropped

 

7)    Sun Visors – No change, new supplier still being sourced.                                               Ongoing

 

 

8)    Old Derry Road & Old Creditview – Management co-chair agreed that there should be one centre

       lane in roadway and will arrange for Traffic Department to have this done in the spring.   Ongoing

 

 

6.       AGENDA ITEMS

7.             WORKPLACE INSPECTIONS

Following items were noted during the inspection and are being addressed:


 

          Mtnce. Lunchroom        . first aid box not clearly visible & marked             . area to be marked & relocated

          Bays 3 & 5                   . air hoses left all over floor                                  . housekeeping

          Work benches               . tools left scattered on bench & floor                   . housekeeping

          Change off cars            . being parked in undesignated areas, hazard for    . sign & memo posted

                                                mtnce staff pulling buses into garage                  

          Ladder, bay 6 & 7         . rubber on stopper worn, ladder insecure              . replace

          First aid box, drivers lounge   . supplies missing                                          . replenish.

9.             WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) SUMMARY


 

One WSIB report was filed in December which did not result in lost time.

 

 


 

10.         HAZARD INFORMATION REPORTS


 

No reports were filed in December.

 

 


 

11.         NEW BUSINESS

Wash bay – Due to extreme cold temperatures worker rep stated that the GSP personnel are finding it difficult to work, causing only minimal service being carried out.  It was suggested that possibly a forced air blower catalytic heater be purchased or rented, Supervisor, Malton Operations to investigate.

 

Southbound Dixie onto South Service Road (Route 5) – Worker rep advised the recently installed yield sign is too high, is hidden behind signage in area and cannot clearly be seen by motorists.  Management co-chair to look into while conducting next terminal inspection.

 

Wiper Blades – Management co-chair to speak with Superintendent, Vehicle Maintenance on quality of replacement wiper blades being supplied, as current supplier quality is unacceptable according to worker reps.
